First security lanes at Schiphol Airport opened

SCHIPHOL – At Amsterdam Schiphol Airport our engineers are busy renovating and renewing Terminal 1. This will create more space which makes the travel proces faster and which makes it passible to offer more facilities. Tomorrow morning at 4 AM the first ten lanes will be opened and the first travellers can make use of these security lanes that are equipped with ClearScan® hand luggage scans and ProVision 2® bodyscans. DAEL Security has been appointed by Leidos to install and maintain these scans for the Schiphol Group.

Schiphol is busy upgrading Terminal 1. The travelling comfort will be increased considerably by building a mezzanine, extending the Lounge, adjusting the routes and increasing the offer of shops and cafes. An extra floor has been created between two levels where among others a new security filter will be installed. On this floor DAEL Security installs 21 new security lanes equipped with ClearScan® hand luggage scans and ProVision 2® bodyscans. Tomorrow morning at 4 AM the first ten lanes will be operational and in May 2021 all 21 security lanes will be opened.

The ClearScan® hand luggage scanners are used to check the hand luggage of the passengers. With these CT-scans the employees can see the content of the bags in 360 degrees.  A detection algoritm calculates which materials and liquids are inside of the luggage and therefore the luggage can stay in the bags or suitcases. Liquids and electronics do not have to be presented separately which increases the travel speed and comfort.

Every day thousands of passengers go through these security lanes and therefore the machines need to be able to process thousands of scans per day. DAEL Security not only executes the installation of these new scanners, but also provides the complete service management and maintenance of these assets. In total, DAEL Security maintains more than 80 ClearScans® and 90 ProVisions® at Schiphol only. DAEL has a special Leidos Service Team at Schiphol consisting of 23 employees. This team takes care 24/7 of the project work, service and maintenance of all Leidos assets at Schiphol Airport, Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Eindhoven Airport and Maasvlakte.
